About me

I am new to bloging and in fact just started. http://gardengossipsb.blogspot.com. We have a weekly radio show (Garden Gossip) which focuses on sustainable landscapes and organic gardening. I co-own Montecito Landscape with her husband, landscape designer, Chris Cullen. www.montecitolandscape.com. I am also starting as a writer for Greenbuildingpro.com, a new resource and networking site for those in the green building trade. I write for Food and Home and The Montecito Journal, both here in Santa Barbara. Garden Gossip is what we call our newsletter and our columns in the various publications. In between all that I tend 20 hens and have an organic vegetable garden. Oh yeah, I just joined Facebook too.

Current project

Writing a series of stories about the past 40 years of running a landscape company in our community of Montecito, CA. We have worked for everyone from Gene Hackman to Tom Cruise and have some fun tales to tell. These columns will be published in the Montecito Journal, where I have been publishing "Garden Gossip' for the past 7 years.

Thank you Figtree! Things have gotten so busy around here I haven't posted anything for a long time...So much to say and so little time.
How are things in WA? I love that area, you are very fortunate to have moved there from LA!

Not to worry! I have never been so busy in my life and feeling overwhelmed by it all! We are in Seattle, which has actually been so nice and warm and sunny! Hope you are doing great and Congrats!!

Hey there Garden Gossip! Welcome to Dig The Dirt... we are super happy you made it here. We don't want to brag, but we've got a lot to offer here:

Start a Gardening Journal: just click on the tab "contributions" above and start writing and uploading photos. Track your garden this year and see your successes as well as failures -- we all have 'em.

Read articles and ask questions: We have tons of info all over this site and there is so much more to come, so keep browsing. Ask any question you have and other members will answer, and if they don't I will find out the answer for you!

Make some friends: Don't be shy- so far everyone is really kind and generous here. Just click on the green tab "gardeners" above and you can search by zone or city to make buddies in your area.

Give us Feedback!! This is really important to us, as we are a brand new site, still in beta and we are working our hardest to bring you a great website. HAPPY GARDENING!

BTW- you can set up a link to your website, or other articles you have written in your profile, or any post you write. :)

Thank you Figtree, I am new to all this blogging and stuff and need all the help I can get. I just joined Facebook and started my blog yesterday, because it has been raining here. I will try to figure out how to get my blog and other links onto my profile. I appreciate your help. As soon as I figure out how to make you a friend i will...thanks again for the warm welcome.

Thanks again, Fig Tree....I do have a question. I am updating every day or two on my blog..but don't understand how to connect this site to that so that I don't have to blog in both spots...How do I do this? Thanks for helping me along.

this one is a little tricky, as you don't want to post exactly the same thing in too many places- i am going to ask chief cultivator for some advice on this and he'll let you know on your wall :)

Well, at this point we do not have the ability to take feeds from another blog and publish the posts here on DigtheDirt.com. It's actually not something you would want to do, as on the web, duplicate content (same content on more than one site) can be extremely detrimental to SEO. To establish yourself and your name, the best advice I can give is to post unique content here and on your blog... It could be roughly the same information, but if it is a copy of your blog, then the search engines could penalize your blog site, thus not having it show up in search results. We're still getting going here at DTD, but I would love it if you could find a way to keep posting fairly regularly. The hope is that collectively, we can build more traffic for gardening, and thus the bloggers on our site, than someone could do on their own. Please let me know if you have any additional questions!
