My Website or Blog:

Verdura Culinary Gardens

About me

I am a professional gardener and chef. I co-own Verdura Culinary Gardens with my husband, Larry. I also do some catering during the winter months, and teach cooking lessons at In Good Taste cooking school in Portland, OR.

Current project

Finishing summer plantings in about 25 local gardens, getting our clients set up with both summer and fall crops. Our long, cold, wet spring finally gave way to summer heat, and we're busy adapting.

Type of gardener

Organic raised bed vegetables and herbs

Favorite garden activity

Developing three-season planting plans

Caroline - where do you get the very cool colorful wavy support stakes? They are so neat!

They are from Gardener's Supply, and they're called rainbow spiral supports. They are really nice looking - our clients love them. They do fade over the summer, though, just so you know. But I still like them.

Great! Thank you - those supports might make it into my garden this year!

Thank you so much! I will be uploading some photos soon. Where are you from?

I live in Austin TX - it's a crazy place to grow veggies. I am on top of a hill (made of limestone) and our soil is about an inch deep. So, the veggie garden is in an enclosed raised bed in an attempt to keep the guerrilla squirrels out. Our summer last year was incredible - long drought and terrible heat. I am hoping for better conditions and luck this year! I love your website and your suggested garden themes - I would have to have one of each!
