About me

I'm a beginning gardener excited to grow food for my family of three. I live in SE Portland, OR with my boyfriend and my 5 yr old son. We are also animal lovers; our menagerie currently consists of 4 chickens, 2 Leopard Geckos, a mini Australian Shepherd and a diabetic dwarf hamster. My son has a heart condition, so I am trying to instill healthy eating habits in him from a young age. I'm hoping his participation in the garden will help with this.

Current project

We are building new raised beds for square foot vegetable gardening this year. My goal is to create a year-round garden to supply us with most, if not all, of our veggies. We will have a total of 96sqft for gardening, plus 3 whiskey barrels, and several containers. I also hope to get my 4 rain barrels installed.

I was thinking about you today and wondering how the garden and the chickens are - anything growing yet?

Sorry, we've been crazy busy with other projects lately. Got new furniture for the living room, new tv and surround sound, having a beam in the ceiling replaced, I'm looking for a job, reorganizing my office... did I mention it's been crazy? We did get most of the garden planted - I'll try to get pics taken and posted tomorrow after my son's cardiology appointment. Chickens now have free run of the yard - I'll try to get some pics of them too. :-) How are things with you?

Ah, things are at last blooming! I finally took time to put up some pics and do a post on the garden status! I still need to do some work on a new small bed I had to put in this year - raise up the sprinkler head! Can't plant the last tomato in there until that's done! I also need to put some more dirt around my potatoes...hopefully today! Take care -

I'd love to see pics of the chickens and their home too! I hadn't read your profile yet when I suggested the sq. ft gardening method on your garden post - have a good time with it!

oops- just saw that you already talked about sq foot gardening too... :)guess you're already a convert!

I love the idea of sq foot gardening - haven't fully converted my own space yet - b/c is really an odd shape! Btw, Coscto has a neat ready made set for sale right now - even comes with a cold frame lid!

Lol - was just getting ready to go take pics of the chickens and coop and write a new post - I'll have it up soon!
