description for "Winter Squash and Pumpkins: Cucurbita maxima 'Lakota'"
Once thought to be an extinct squash variety was 'Lakota'. This gorgeous colored squash has been recreated by plant breeders and its color, taste and heritage have been restored. Once a prized variety of the Sioux Indians, it features orange and dark green marbled skin and tasty, finely ground flesh. This pear shaped variety is ideal for roasting and baking but can also be an attractive addition to Fall decorating. Maturity in 85-110 days. Edited by S. Derr
