description for "Winter Squash and Pumpkins: Cucurbita moschata 'Black Futsu'"

A very rare and unique winter squash is 'Black Futsu'. This variety was first discovered in Japan and features deeply ribbed, warted skin with hues of green blue and purple. Under this colorful rind is golden colored flesh with a taste similiar to hazelnuts. These three to eight pound fruits will turn a chestnut color at maturity and grow on small compact plants, suitable for growing in containers. Enjoy roasted, baked or fried. Maturity in 85-110 days.
