description for "Sunflowers: Helianthus annuus 'Junior'"

This first pollen-free dwarf branching sunflower, 'Junior' forms ornamental rosettes of leaves even before flowering. When they burst into bloom, these charming short sunflowers are exceptionally long lasting. Their cheerful 4 to 5 inch faces have long bright yellow petals and dark center discs that smile atop branching stalks just 2 _ feet tall. Perfect for large pots and planters, multi-branching 'Junior' also makes a great edging for a summer vegetable garden or flower bed. Make several sowings 3 weeks apart to have a succession of flowers in full bloom. Keep soil moist and well weeded and protect seedlings from birds with netting of plastic berry baskets, removing before plants get crowded. - edited by dtd pbcouchman
