description for "Annuals: Agrostemma githago 'Purple Queen'"

Agrostemma githago 'Purple Queen' is a beloved cottage garden flower also called “Rose of Heaven.” Their simple, fluted blossoms with delicately striped throats bloom strongly atop slender stems. Floating above grassy foliage, blooming Agrostemma softens the landscape with a wave of color throughout spring and early summer. We’ve combined lavender-rose “purple Queen” and shell-pink “Pink Contessa” for a lavish garden display of shimmering, satiny flowers and long-stemmed, graceful bouquets to cut and enjoy indoors. Best to plant directly in the garden. In mild winter climates, sow seeds in early spring or late fall for spring blooms. In colder climates, sow directly as soon as soil can be worked. Be patient – germination takes 14 to 21 days. – edited by dtd pbcouchman
