description for "Sunflowers: Helianthus annuus 'Tarahumara White Shelled'"

Helianthus annuus 'Tarahumara White Shelled' solid gold sunflower is a rare and unusual variety with beautiful flowers. Tall, high-yielding stalks produce one very large head with white-shelled, edible seeds. Sow 1 'Tarahumara White Shelled' seed every two inches in the garden when all danger of frost has passed. Enrich soil with compost. During germination, keep entire seedbed evenly moist. Keep well-watered through maturity, allowing soil surface to dry between waterings. Fairly drought tolerant once well established. Pick at the peak of bloom or leave for the birds to enjoy. 6-9 feet tall. Planting depth: 1 inch. Days to germination: 5-10 days. 85-100 days to maturity.
