description for "Fennel: Foeniculum vulgare var. rubrum 'Bronze'"

Foeniculum vulgare var. rubrum 'Bronze' is similar in appearance to dill with an attractive bronze cast to its lacy foliage. This 'Bronze' fennel does not form a bulb. Chopped leaves are excellent in soups, salads and stews. Makes a nice garnish. Sow 1 seed per inch in garden in rows 8-15 inches apart in late spring or early summer. Can also be sown indoors in flats 4-6 weeks before the last frost. Enrich soil with mature compost. Keep well watered through maturity allowing soil surface to dry between watering. Harvest leaves anytime after plant is 1 foot tall. Planting depth: 3/8 inch. Days to germination: 14 days. 50-60 days to maturity.
