description for "Strawberry: Fragaria x ananassa 'Seascape'"
Fragaria x ananassa 'Seascape' is a cross between popular varieties, Selva & Douglas. Very productive all season with large fruit and excellent flavor. Each cluster produces one-large extra berry. Does not need much chill, can be planted in warmer climates. Overall 'Seascape' shows good disease resistance but mildly susceptible to common leaf spot. Developed by the Univ. of CA and released in 1991. Plant strawberries as soon as the ground can be worked in the spring to allow the plants to become well established before hot weather arrives. This is usually from January through April depending on your growing region. Do not plant in soil if it is wet. Try to plant strawberries on a cloudy day or during the late afternoon. Set the strawberry plant in the soil so that the soil is just covering the tops of the roots. Do not cover the crown. Space plants 12-18" apart in rows 3-4 feet apart. After four or five weeks, the plants will proudce runners and new daughter plants. 20-50 days to maturity.
