description for "Apples: Malus domestica 'Spitzenburg Semidwarf'"

Malus domestica 'Spitzenburg Semidwarf' was Thomas Jefferson's favorite. 'Spitzenburg Semidwarf' goes back at least to 1800 in NY. Fruit has tough, russeted skin, red over yellow with inconspicuous stripes. Flesh is tinged yellow, firm, aromatic, and slightly subacid. Unequaled in flavor and quality.
