description for "Lettuce: Lactuca Sativa, 'Black-Seeded Simpson'"

Lactuca Sativa 'Black-Seeded Simpson' was introduced in 1850. This well traveled variety still earns praise for its bright green, sweet tasting, large, and crumbled leaves. The succulent inner leaves of 'Black-Seeded Simpson' are nearly self-blanching. Stands up to the heat and drought. Slow bolter, never bitter, yet early and adaptable. Important salad mix variety. Planting depth: surface. Days to germination: 5-10 days. 50-55 days to maturity.
