description for "Banana: Musa sp."

While it is unclear exactly which species of banana this is, there's not doubt that it's a banana! Bananas add tropical flair to a landscape. If you are lucky, they will produce fruit as well! Provide plenty of full sun and protection from strong winds which will shred the leaves. In northern climates, it might be possible to mulch them very heavily after frost (when the leaves and stem are killed) and see them re-emerge in the late spring. -- edited by dtd pbcouchman

History:

The genus Musa is native from Asia to Australia.

Love the fun banana trees- they always remind me of a vacation. Please post more like this so I can take a mini vacation through photos as the rain starts to come in Seattle!!!

We have great banana trees, but this far north, they definitely don't create blooms - especially ones as great as these! Harvesting must be fun!
