description for "Hedges: Lorapetalum chinensis rubrum forma 'Ruby'"
Lorapetalum shrub has an open growth habit, reaching six feet or greater in height. However, it can be pruned to create a shorter, tighter hedge. Once a year, the shrub blooms profusely, covering the plant in tiny, pink, fringy flowers. It blooms scantily for the remainder of the year. In the southern extreme of its range, its major bloom flush occurs in January, though it blooms later in spring in the northern extreme. Plant should be pruned after the major bloom flush.
History:
Native to Japan and Southeast Asia.
