description for "Gingers: Costus amazonicus"

Costus Amazonicus is a gorgeous tropical plant with eye catching green and white variegated leaves. Flowers are white and yellow and emerge from red and green bracts. Gingers appreciate a sweet soil and filtered sunlight. Water well during growing season of spring and summer and limit water in winter. Gingers produce long lasting flowers that are also good cut flowers. Heavily mulch gingers, but keep mulch from touching the plant's stem. Divide plants in summer.

Native to Peru and Ecuador.
