description for "Gingers: Zingiber officianale"

Zingiber officianale is a treat for harvesting. Ginger ale got its start in English pubs where ground ginger was shaken into ale by pub patrons. Roots should be started indoors in a container and transplanted out doors late spring. New roots can be harvested at any time but will have the most flavor later in the year. Original tuber should be discarded at the end of the growing season. Zingiber officianale will grow to 2 - 4 feet tall and has glossy leaves. Protect from cold and wind.
