description for "Garlic and Shallots: Allium sativum 'Brown Rose'"
'Brown Rose' garlic a hardneck variety. This type of garlic produces a woody flower stalk with bulblets atop as well as large cloves underground. The cloves are bigger and easier to peel than the ones produced by softnecks. Two pounds plants about 25 row feet. The cloves are very fat with a rose-brown blush and light streaks over buff brown. 'Brown Rose', averaging 6 cloves per bulb, is a very popular strain and a good keeper. -- edited by dtd pbcouchman
