description for "Amaryllis: Hippeastrum 'Telstar'"

The '60s gave us color television, rock n' roll, and the flower power of 'Telstar.' Introduced in 1962, this large-flowering variety has yet to be outshined by younger generations of amaryllis. Why the faithful following? 'Telstar' gazers will tell you the 6-inch-wide flowers bring the heavens to earth. One top-size, 34 cm bulb produces two 16-inch-tall stems, each twinkling with brilliant clusters of 3 or 4 dark pink blossoms. The size of the bulb you buy counts! -- edited by dtd pbcouchman
