description for "Onions: Allium cepa 'Red Burgermaster'"

'Red Burgermaster' is a large-size, bright-red, globe-shape onion with a crisp red and white flesh. Produces large and jumbo bulb sizes up to 3 inches in diameter. Great on burgers, sandwiches, and in salads. Stores well approximately 3-4 months. Long day onions grow better in northern states because they need 14 to 16 hours of daylight to bulb satisfactorily. Long day varieties generally have a more pungent flavor than short day. -- edited by dtd pbcouchman

History:

Allium cepa has been cultivated throughout such a large portion of human history, that the true species is no longer known in the wild.
