description for "Apples: Malus domestica 'Freedom'"

'Freedom' offers growers the freedom from spraying trees for disease control. For more than 20 years of testing, this tree has been grown with ZERO disease-controlling sprays! Resistant to apple scab, powdery mildew, cedar apple rust, and fire blight this is the perfect variety for the home orchard. With 'McIntosh', 'Rome', 'Golden Delicious' and other varieties in its parentage, trees are vigorous and spreading, with leathery foliage. Large, bright red fruit mature in early October with fine-textured, tender, juicy flesh. Great for eating fresh, cooked or juiced. Plant another apple variety along with 'Freedom' for proper pollination. Semi-dwarf trees will grow to a height of 10 to 12 feet and yield about 5 bushels of fruit per tree. -- edited by dtd pbcouchman

History:

'Freedom' is a cross between 'Jonagold' and 'Golden Delicious.'
