description for "Perennial Salvias: Salvia splendens"

Salvia splendens is a versatile, long-blooming annual or tender perennial. Grown in most zones as a seasonal bedding plant, it features bright red tubular shaped blossoms. These spikes of color appear all Summer long and are attractive to hummingbirds, bees and butterflies. While it can thrive in full sun, it does not tolerate cold. For this reason, it's best to plant as a seaonal annual. Its a great plant choice for containers, beds and edging. Also commonly referred to as 'Red Salvia.'. Hardy in zones 9-11, annual in all other zones. Edited by S. Derr
