description for "Snapdragon: Antirrhinum majus 'Liberty Classic Series'"

Vigorous, colorful annuals, reaching 24 to 36 inches tall. Valued for their long-blooming and profuse display of stunning flowers from pastels to dark shades. Long, 18-to-24 inch well-formed spikes appear in a wealth of bright, glistening colors. Flowers are densely packed along stalks, and are about 1-inch wide, with a distinctive lipped shape. Sturdy compact plants are bushy and very uniform. Colorful spikes or snaps are popular for adding informal charm to flower beds and indoor bouquets. Start seed indoors 6 to 8 weeks before planting outside or sow directly outside after danger of frost is past. Plants grow as one or several tall stalks covered with bright flowers. Outstanding in mass plantings or borders. Teams well with pansies and spring bulbs. Pinch back spent flowers to prolong bloom season and encourage fullness. Hardy in zones 6-10; otherwise grown as an annual. --edited by dtd siegelgirl
