description for "Amaryllis: Hippeastrum 'Liberty'"

A stunning choice for any holiday table, 'Liberty' is the deepest, darkest red amaryllis we have found. The bulbs bloom 6 to 8 weeks after potting. It's easy to store the bulbs until the frigid days of January and February when the landscape is depressingly bleak. Just place them in a cool, dark location (but don't use a plastic bag). Then plant in potting soil, water, and place in a sunny window. With this minimal assistance, they'll usually produce one or two 20-inch tall stalks topped with three or four large 6-to-8-inch trumpet blooms. -- edited by dtd pbcouchman
