description for "Perennials: Nemesia fruticans"

Nemesia is s South African native found in sandy soils near the coast or in scrubby, often disturbed soil inland. Prefers a sunny location with well drained soil. Dislikes very hot, humid climates. Remove spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering and pinch to promote bushiness. A shrubby evergreen perennial with Linaria-like lavender-pink blooms that have a yellow center. The blooms are heavily scented like vanilla. The growth is sprawling more than it is upright. Great for low borders, beds, containers and mass plantings. The botanical name is uncertain and may also be listed as Nemesia caerulea. Often grown as an annual.
