description for "Coleus: Solenostemon 'Penney'"

Luminous yellow-olive trianglular leaves are veined and backed in rose-red and have large scalloped edges. A perfect foil for hot colored flowers. Coleus as it was meant to be, definitely not boring. Coleus is perfect for providing color and a tropical touch to the garden. Great in containers, too. Provide part to full shade and consistent moisture. Since the foliage is the selling point, it is best to snip off the flowers as they form, forcing the plant to produce more attractive leafy growth. A perennial in its native tropical habitat, it is treated as a summer annual in American gardens. Grows fine indoors in the winter. -- edited by dtd pbcouchman
