description for "Sunflowers: Helianthus annuus 'Bright Bandolier'"

This exceptionally ornamental mixture of sunny yellow and warm burnished mahogany is a beautifully balanced palette of classic sunflower shades. The easy to grow plants bear magnificent big flowers that frame the summer garden with plenty to cut for perfectly contrasting bouquets of clear colors and pretty chocolate disks. After the heat and drought tolerant flowers of 'Bright Bandolier' finish blooming, they offer nutritious seed treats for fall songbirds. Growing these colorful flowers is easy and rewarding. Make several sowings 3 weeks apart to have a succession of flowers in full bloom. Keep soil moist and well weeded and protect seedlings from birds with netting of plastic berry boxes, removing before plants get crowded. Be sure to thin properly when seedlings are about 3 inches tall. – edited by dtd pbcouchman
