description for "Amaryllis: Hippeastrum 'Christmas Gift'"

Anaryllis 'Christmas Gift' looks like a wrapped present. The emerald green, lancelike foliage of this stately plant is topped with impressive, 6-to-8-inch, pure white flowers. The stalks grow to 20 inches tall. Amaryllis bulbs are easy to grow, even for a novice gardener. Just set the bulb in a pot of soil, give it a little water, and place it in the sun. In just 6 to 8 weeks, the bulb blooms, with 4 magnificent flowers. And after the first flower show has faded, most bulbs produce a second stalk of blooms. -- edited by pbcouchman
