description for "Balloon Flower: Platycodon grandiflorus 'Mariesii'"

Platycodon grandiflorus 'Mariesii Blue', perfectly suited to North American gardens, is native to Japan and China. The curious flower blooms resemble small balloons which expand and silently burst open, displaying a five-pointed star about 3" across. They are one of the stronger-blooming summer plants. 'Mariesii Blue' is a choice, shorter variety. -- edited by dtd pbcouchman
