description for "Dianthus: Dianthus 'Frost Fire'"

'Frost Fire' has very fragrant, deep double red flowers that sit just above the striking blue-gray foliage. Nice in rock gardens and perennial borders. Keep faded flowers picked to have continuous summer color. A "killer" combination when planted with yellow flax (Linum flavum 'Compactum'). Dianthus is a large genus with many ornamental varieties; most have fragrant flowers. They are well adapted to arid western climates. Easy to grow when given well drained, but not too rich soil. All appreciate regular watering. Blooms until frost. -- edited by dtd pbcouchman
