description for "Catnip/Catmint: Nepeta cataria"

This catnip is the one that cats love, and it is even useful as a mild sedative when taken as a tea. Hardy perennial to at least Zone 4, but if you have cats, you will need to protect it until it gets established or your feline friends will dig it up. Grows up to 3 feet with soft, grey-green, aromatic foliage. Full of white blooms in the summer months. -- edited by dtd pbcouchman

History:

Nepeta cataria is native to Europe and Asia.
