description for "Coleus: Solenostemon 'India Frills'"

Madras is the home of this exotic patterned foliage plant. Tiny lobed leaves, marked with dusty rose-red, buff and chartreuse create compact mounds of lacy foliage, perfect for containers or for carpeting the ground 6"-8" tall. Coleus is perfect for providing color and a tropical touch to the garden. Provide part to full shade and consistent moisture. Since the foliage is the selling point, it is best to snip off the flowers as they form, forcing the plant to produce more attractive leafy growth. A perennial in its native tropical habitat, it is treated as a summer annual in American gardens. -- edited by dtd pbcouchman
