description for "Zinnias: Zinnia angustifolia 'White Star'"

An exciting and unusual Zinnia! Flower of the Aztecs, the species zinnia has a long history of cultivation in this hemisphere. 'White Star', a modern selection, is a brilliant white. A low mounded shape and narrow, dark green foliage distinguishes this zinnia from cutting types. It grows only 8" to 10" high, and is excellent in hanging baskets. The flowers are daisy-shaped and have pure white petals with gold centers. Heat and drought tolerant, it makes a carefree garden edging, with all the charm of the original species. Much more resistant to diseases, such as powdery mildew, than most other zinnias. Blooms in 6 weeks from seed and is very easy to grow.

History:

Native to south-central and southwestern U.S.A. and northern and central Mexico.
