The appearance of asparagus is one of the first welcome signs of Spring's arrival. Asparagus can be a very long lived perennial crop if cared for well. For best success, plant from crowns instead of seed. A crown is a 1 year old plant, grown from seed. Plant asparagus to the west or north end of the garden bed so as it grows, it won't shade the other plants. It will take several years for plants to grow before they can be harvested.
