Get started!Antique roses are oldies and goodies. Many have survived for years in abandoned locations exhibiting their hardy natures.
Old garden or heirloom roses come to us from our ancestors' gardens, with time-tested survival skills: hardiness in climate extremes, plus rugged character and disease-resistance. Typically, their blossoms are billowy pastel beauties with dizzying fragrance. While their rich histories and romantic names charm us, the only hard part of growing heirloom roses is deciding which easy-care variety to try. Just make sure you choose a rose that's adaptable in your climate. Some are more suited to warm areas, while others tough it out in the cold. You'll find an old-fashioned rose to fit any garden, from shrubby specimens to slender pillars and sprawling climbers.

Antique Hybrid Musk 'Penelope' is a chunky shrub adorned by massive clusters of large, pale pink semi-double flowers fading to peaches and cream. Fat, orange-pink hips weigh down the bush in fall and winter. An excellent choice for hedging as the bush is dense and smothered in flowers with a good repeat. 'Penelope' shows excellent disease resistance, making gardening success even easier.
