Popular Christmas / Holiday Plants

As we decorate and give gifts of the season, many of us decorate our homes with the traditional Christmas tree, wreath, and poinsettias. We also give wreaths and plants as gifts. I was considering this idea as I searched for a slightly less traditional grave-side ornamental for my mother-in-law. Poinsettias are the obvious choice, and definitely available, but I wanted something a bit less typical and something that didn't require daily watering in Florida's dry season. I finally settled on a pot of "Crown of Thorns", although I also considered some dainty kalanchoe (but this pretty succulent already adorns much of my landscape). In your decorating / gift giving this year, you might consider some of the plants I've posted. No, I could not resist the American Icon - the Chia Pet!!! If you have other ideas, please add them to the list!!

great list lily! thanks for all the reminders of plants for the holidays :) when there are lots and lots of berries on those orange jasmine bushes-- doesn't that mean that it is going to be a mild winter? I think I heard that somewhere...

Oh, and thanks for the chia pet!!! ummmm.... LOVE chia pets. Cheesy and great at the same time.

Oooh, amaryllis are one of my favorite Christmas gifts to give or receive! When I lived in my first home, I received a poinsettia and planted it near the back door. It did indeed grow huge! And there are a few large specimens around the town I live in now. The crown-of-thorns is a pretty choice. And I miss my jasmine tree..............
