Pruning peonies

by veggiegirl

Howdy gardeners -

I planted new peonies last summer.  They did pretty well this year, producing just a couple blooms on each plant (i have three)  Just wondering if now that their bloom season is over I need to cut them back.  They have nice foliage on them, but I'm not sure if pruning them will hurt them for next years bloom.

Thanks for any responses.

Its best to wait for the first hard frost then you can cut everything to the ground.

HI there! You will need to prune them, but wait until fall for sure - cut them back about halfway when the foliage has died off.
