harvesting carrots

by dig the dirt editor

If you beds are a little deeper the roots of the carrot can really spread out and grow sweeter by the day!

When do I pull them out of the ground?

  • determine the size of the carrot by pushing soil away from the top and do not let them get much larger than they are expected to be depending on the variety planted. (Normally in September)

How do I get them out of the ground?

  • Pulling carrots in not exactly the way to do it- use a garden fork and loosen the soil around the carrot before you get it out of the ground.

Eat it!

  • You can eat the whole plant!  Trim the foliage off of the carrot and use it in salads.
