what are some tips on planting new trees?

I have always used a slow drip on a new tree. It is actually the best way have found to water a new tree- Let the hose on a VERY slow drip and let it go for 4-5 hours. This will water the tree with the correct amount without having it wasted.

Make a shallow moat at least one foot in diameter around the plant's base, to catch water and direct it to the roots. Mound soil in a ring around the well.

Do not amend the soil in the planting hole with fertilizer or anything other than compost.
