what's the plural of crocus?

by meinnovations

It's crocus time! There's hardly anything better than the sign that we're pulling out of a cold, dark, and wet NW winter. I love them, but what do I call all of them? What's the plural of crocus?

According to Dictionary.com, here's the scoop: 1) plural also crocus or cro·ci /-"kE, -"kI, -"sI/ : any of a large genus (Crocus) of perennial herbs of the iris family (Iridaceae.)

The ways you can pronounce it surprised me!!

Unlike octopus, the plural of Crocus can go either way: both "crocuses" and "croci" may be used!

wow, it's my annual ritual to ask everyone i know every time i see a crocus what two of them are called. i searched ad nauseum several crocus times ago and found no answer to the croci/crocuses/crocusi/crocuses conundrum. i'm digging this dirt. enjoy the happy dance, although i suspect they get kind of old with that guy...
