Ft. Pierce, FL Orchid Show, October 2009

This weekend, I visited my first orchid show! There were so many amazingly beautiful, exotic blooms in one place! I wasn't sure if I'd be welcomed or snubbed, since I obviously know nothing about orchids. But I was warmly welcomed...everyone seemed excited to see some new faces, share their knowledge, and show off their expertise. It was a lot of fun!

My only experience with orchids is a lovely dendrobium, the easiest of all orchids, I'm told. Thank goodness! It was a gift from a friend a few years ago for my birthday, and it blooms religiously twice a year, once annually in October for my birthday!

The orchid society members encouraged me to learn more and venture out into the orchid world, enticing me to join their organization. I'm certainly considering it! Until then, enjoy the lovely blooms and imagine the glorious perfume!

Ooh, I bet that was fun! The pictures are beautiful...I'm a huge fan of orchids. The orchid in #6 is awesome! My small collection of vanda (my favs), phalaeonopsis, cymbidium, and dendrobium orchids is small but growing. Still want to add some lady slippers. We have a huge lanai that I hope is overflowing with orchids one day. A few of my older ones have produced keikis already.

#6 is my favorite too...the green combined with the purple/white combo is really cool. It's a mix between the two varieties...an explanation that I am not able to pass on with any kind of credibility. However, every time I thought I saw the best bloom, I'd find one just as great, if not more so, right around the corner. Even my son had fun, which is amazing in and of itself!!!
